2024 Remembrance Day

"We will remember them"

There are three Memorials in Kendal commemorating those who gave their lives in war. Provincial staff are included in all three, so for a number of years the Provincial Pensioners Association has laid wreaths at them.

The Memorials are at:

Romney Road Memorial Garden

This memorial lists the Kendal residents killed in World War 2.

Christine Nicholson and John Lyons laid the wreath on Friday 8th November.

Civic War Memorial Market Place

This memorial will be known to all who visited Kendal.

The Roll of Honour includes those who died in World War 1, World War 2 and the Korean War.

Janis and Andy Mildwater represented Provincial Pensioners on Remembrance Sunday 10th November laying our wreath during the Civic Ceremony at 11am.

St George's Church

This is the place where the Memorial stone that used to be at Head Office has been located since 2001.

Listed on the Memorial stone are all the Provincial staff (whether they worked in the United Kingdom or Overseas), including Miss Laycock - a civilian staff member killed in an air raid on Nottingham. Also on display is the Book of Remembrance, which contains one page for every staff Member who lost their lives.

Christine Nicholson and Tony Ryan laid wreaths on behalf of Provincial Pensioners and the Scott family at 11am on Monday 11th November.
