Dear friends and colleagues
Welcome to the AXA Provincial Pensioners Association website ...
I have just returned from a wonderful experience of walking one of the Camino routes. I walked with a friend from TUI in Spain (120km south of Porto) to Santiago de Compostela. In total we covered around 120 km staying at small hotels along the route. We met many like minded people covering the same route, pilgrims or perrigrinos in Spanish.
It was a wonderfully uplifting experience of meeting people who were all doing their pilgrimage for different reasons.
We met a young man with cerebral palsy who despite his physical disability was walking it with his family, a man who was recovering from a stroke and many people who had lost a loved one.
Sharing stories and a meal in the evening with strangers from all over the world, who by the end of the pilgrimage had become firm friends.
So I have come back refreshed and so much more positive than when I went. Possibly because I wasn’t watching the news or reading any newspapers with the depressing state of affairs in the world.
I am also homeless having sold my house in Bolton and waiting for completion on a property in the north east where I will be nearer to my two sisters. Fortunately I have friends and family who have kindly made room for me for the next couple of months.
Things have been fairly quiet on the APPA front, although there have been a few lunches taking place, Leeds and Bolton. Unfortunately with all that has been going on with my move I was unable to organise one in Glasgow in April but hope to rectify that by holding an event later in the year.
Keep an eye on the Regional updates for details of the forthcoming events which are planned towards the end of the year.
You may recall that Barings solicitors took a class action against Capita regarding the data breach and a number of APPA individuals signed up to the class action. The team handling the claim at Barings have all moved over to Abbleys solicitors and have taken the case with them (with the consent and blessing of Barings). We have put an update in the website for those of you who are interested.
You will also probably be aware that for any pensioner aged under 80 Capita have moved to sending everything digitally. If you still want to receive information by post you will need to contact them in writing. The address is under the useful information on the website.
I hope you all have an enjoyable summer and the weather is kind wherever you are. I am looking forward to a drier climate in the north east as the north west certainly has its fair share of rain.
Stay well and hope to see some of you at events later in the year.
Kindest regards
Pat Brady FCII
